Richard Walker

Richard Walker is the managing director of Iceland Foods, a company that has had purpose at its heart since it was set up 50 years ago.

Born in Chester, 1980, Richard went on to study geography at Durham University in 2001, before travelling extensively across Russia, China, South East Asia and South America. He then began a successful property career in the UK and Europe, founding Bywater Properties, of which he remains Chairman.

Growing up, Richard never wanted to work in the family business or attempt to follow in the legendary footsteps of his father, who founded the company in 1970. But in 2012 he returned to Iceland, spending a year training in-store to truly understand the business. He then took a role with the head office team, in Deeside, Wales, taking responsibility for the group’s sustainability initiatives in 2017 before becoming managing director of Iceland Foods in 2018.

Richard is at the forefront of the sustainable business conversation, being a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a member of the DEFRA Council for Sustainable Business, a Sustainable Business Ambassador for the HRH the Prince of Wales, and a trustee of several leading environmental charities. He is a panellist on BBC’s Question Time and star of Channel 5’s recent TV series Inside Iceland.

Richard lives in Cheshire with his wife and two children. When weather permits he can be found surfing and hiking.
